Card 81 of 82

Stand to the End

Mike has been standing motionless in the middle of the desert for over a day. He is all alone and has neither food nor water, but he doesn't leave the spot. What's going on?

Solution: Mike thinks his foot is on a mine, though it is not. He and his partner had been ordered to kill terrorists, but the operation failed. A sandstorm helped them escape and they ended up in the desert without noticing that they were in a minefield. Suddenly Mike's partner was blown up by a mine and died. At the same moment Mike took a step and clearly heard something click under his foot, and he froze, believing he had triggered a mine fuse: if he lifted his foot, the mine would explode. He told his superiors over the radio, and they said they could only help him in 52 hours, so he decided to wait. A day later he was suffering from the heat and beginning to hallucinate. He never knew that the click was not a mine, but a tin can left in the desert by someone else who had been blown up in the same field.
How to play

Twisted Tales is a game of lateral thinking. Each card is a strange, usually macabre situation, and your group has to work out what really happened.

  1. Pick one player as the Game Master (the Narrator). Only the Game Master looks at the screen.
  2. The Game Master reads the prompt on the card out loud, then privately reads the solution using "Show solution".
  3. Everyone else asks questions to piece together the story.
  4. The Game Master may only answer "Yes", "No" or "Irrelevant" (when the question is a dead end).
  5. Keep asking and discussing theories until someone reconstructs the key events. Then the Game Master reads the full solution aloud.
  6. Use "Next" and "Back" to move between cards. You always start from the prompt.
