Card 77 of 82

A Fire in France

In France in 1959, a woman is waiting in her room for her husband to come home, with all the doors locked from the inside. When he arrives, the house has burned to the ground and she is dead. How come?

Solution: The hot sun reflected off the woman's large mirror, which may not have been perfectly flat and so focused the sunlight, and heated the lingerie she was wearing to burning point. She was absorbed in a book and didn't notice the heat until her clothing was on fire. Nobody could get in to help her because the doors were locked from the inside.
How to play

Twisted Tales is a game of lateral thinking. Each card is a strange, usually macabre situation, and your group has to work out what really happened.

  1. Pick one player as the Game Master (the Narrator). Only the Game Master looks at the screen.
  2. The Game Master reads the prompt on the card out loud, then privately reads the solution using "Show solution".
  3. Everyone else asks questions to piece together the story.
  4. The Game Master may only answer "Yes", "No" or "Irrelevant" (when the question is a dead end).
  5. Keep asking and discussing theories until someone reconstructs the key events. Then the Game Master reads the full solution aloud.
  6. Use "Next" and "Back" to move between cards. You always start from the prompt.
