Card 27 of 82

Died of Fright

A man woke up, lit a match and saw something that frightened him to death. What happened?

Solution: The man was a prisoner serving a very long sentence. He paid the man in charge of burying the prison's dead to help him escape: when someone died in prison, the prisoner would hide in the coffin next to the corpse, and after the burial outside the prison the undertaker would dig him up. When someone died, the prisoner slipped into the coffin and fell asleep. He woke up with the coffin already buried, lit a match and saw the face of the corpse: it was the undertaker who was supposed to dig him up.
How to play

Twisted Tales is a game of lateral thinking. Each card is a strange, usually macabre situation, and your group has to work out what really happened.

  1. Pick one player as the Game Master (the Narrator). Only the Game Master looks at the screen.
  2. The Game Master reads the prompt on the card out loud, then privately reads the solution using "Show solution".
  3. Everyone else asks questions to piece together the story.
  4. The Game Master may only answer "Yes", "No" or "Irrelevant" (when the question is a dead end).
  5. Keep asking and discussing theories until someone reconstructs the key events. Then the Game Master reads the full solution aloud.
  6. Use "Next" and "Back" to move between cards. You always start from the prompt.
